Marketing Fails

Is your marketing getting the job done?

I know this might not be the best example of a marketing fail but it is one that makes me giggle.

Uh, may I lovingly recommend something a little bigger?  Brighter colored?  Different pricing system altogether?

My takeaway?  What messages am I sending in the marketplace that are just making more noise and aren’t doing squat to add any value?

Freelancing: Work For Free or Freedom From Work?

May 2, 2012

Freelance - Freelancing

It is not unusual for people to think of freelancers as individuals who work for free or pretty close to it. But that’s not necessarily the case for self-employed professionals. Working part-time or full-time on your own is not meant for everyone – Do have what it takes to be your own boss?

Freelancing is for individuals who want to grab their independence. Most commonly these professionals work along creative or computer related fields such as writing, graphic design, photography, website development and advertising.

Free agents, or freelancers, can work for multiple employers at a given time since they are usually not tied down in an exclusive contract. Projects and contracts can be as short as a couple of hours or for extended periods of time like six months or over a year. Depending on the work set-up agreed upon by both parties, freelancers often work at home during their most convenient time.

You might need some more experience before diving into the vast sea of freelancing. Aspiring freelance professionasl usually start out by only accepting a handful or projects while keeping their day job. Individuals who want to test the waters, build a portfolio or save up to start a business often opt for this route.  Skilled and seasoned freelancers have an upper hand in their pricing because of their proven credible status.

Joining the legions of freelancers around the globe can help build or destroy your career. Does the dynamic career of a freelancer appeal to you? Are you ready to join the club?

What makes for a great source of extra income

October 12, 2011

I’m a bit of a pack rat and one of the things I pack away is digital information.  I will NEVER be able to use all the stuff I put aside to read, but I do pull the information out and use it.  Just never to the extent that it seems to collect!

Part of the problem is that some of proves to be valuable to have.

Which brings me to why I’m bothering to post.  I ran across this excerpt from Dough Roller on Multiple Streams of Income and it just seemed such perfect timing.  More on that later, but in the meantime I just wanted to share…

What makes for a great source of extra income

We could all go out and get a second job at Home Depot or Starbucks to earn some extra income. As you might imagine, however, that’s not what I have in mind. When assessing how you can generate multiple income streams, consider these factors:

Flexible: The ideal source of extra income will allow you to call the shots when it comes to your time. Particularly if you have a full time job, the last thing you want is being tied down to working a set number of hours each week at a second job.

Scalable: Look for income sources that have at least the possibility of generating substantial amounts of income.

Sustainable: The ideal extra income source will continue to generate cash even when you’re not working at it. The idea is to build something that can eventually function without you.

Enjoyable: Generating additional sources of income is a lot of work, so you might as well enjoy what you’re doing.

Inexpensive: I don’t like income generating ideas that require massive investment.

It’s not the first time I’ve run across some great content by Dough Roller – worth a peek, people!  Rest of the article is here.

W3 Total Cache

September 28, 2011

I’m taking a look at amping up the performance of my web site and I’m taking W3 Total Cache for a spin.

It’s recommended by almost everyone that uses WordPress because it really streamlines the way the web site loads and make it noticeably fast.

The noticeably part?  Would love to hear your feedback if you notice the difference.

Want to try it yourself?  Check it out at http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-super-cache/
